LO1: Prelim task for UTC magazine

 EXAMPLE MAGAZINE FRONT COVERS

All of the magazine front covers have refined colour schemes and font colours all of which are used in contrast with each other like black and red and white and green. All of the magazines also only have a main cover image but no other cover images which makes the only image stand out more and seem more eye-catching. All of the magazines also have a sell line unique to themselves.

PHOTOGRAPHS FOR UTC MAGAZINE

Photo is in focus and clearly shows off the river, walkway, parking and side of school. However the photograph is over exposed in the left background and therefore will either need to be edited in Photoshop or not used for the magazine at all
This photo was meant to be in focus and represent the first step into A-Levels for students that had either come from Y11 or another school or for new joiners to the school and therefore the fears and anxieties they would have about being out in town or coming to a new school. However because of how blurry it is i will probably not use it.
This photo was merely a test photo and is at the wrong angle, wrong shot type and is out of focus slightly meaning I will definitely not be using it.
This photo is meant to represent the old and the new culture of Sheffield and of UTC City Center. As both the wall and the UTC building are incredibly old but has now been renovated into a new state of the art educational establishment.
This photo of a student is meant to show off the diverse range of pupils we have in UTC as well as an area around the building. However the photo is slight over exposed and therefore I might not use it.
This photo is meant to show off the side of the building however is completely out of focus and is at a jaunty angle therefore I wont use it.
This photo was taken for the exact same reason as the last one of the same pupil, however this is far more over exposed than the other and is more out of focus therefore I will definitely not use it.
This photo of the wall was taken for the exact same reason as the other photo of the wall however was meant to be at a different angle to be able to show off the river and side of the school as well. However is at the wrong angle and slightly blurry therefore I will not use it.
This photo was taken completely by accident and therefore is incredibly blurry and at the wrong angle, I will not be using this photo.
This photo of the front of the UTC Sheffield building is in focus at the right angle and isn't blurry. I have chosen to use either this or the photo of my fellow student as the main cover image and I will decide after looking at both of them respectively in Photoshop.

SCREENSHOTS FROM PHOTOSHOP

I then went into my downloads and opened my chosen main cover image which is of the front of the UTC building. I then moved the separate document that contained the photo and moved it onto my Magazine layer. I then turned on the transformation controls and contorted the image to fit the boundaries of the document. Then I changed the name of the layer to 'main cover image.'

I chose the font 'Elephant' because it is bold and eye catching as well as being formal which has connotations of the UTC image/brand. I chose black font as it bests fits with the colours behind the text however I will change this and add a banner behind because black doesn't fit the house colours of UTC Sheffield and it isn't eye catching.

I chose the font 'Elephant' because it is bold and eye catching as well as being formal which has connotations of the UTC image/brand. I then added a black banner behind the font as due to the metal, brickwork and sky having different colours there wasn't one colour that could fit all three at once. As well as this I changed the font colour to light blue to fit the house style of UTC. Next I changed the layer names to Mast head and Banner.

Next I changed the banner colour to a dark blue because not only do the colours contrast but both fit into the house style colours.

Next I added in the UTC Logo and name from my downloads through 'open file' and used the magic eraser to get rid of the white background to the text. Then I moved the logo over onto my front cover

I then recentered my Masthead so that it seemed more eye catching to the reader.

After that I added another banner, this time a white banner, behind the UTC logo in order for it to pop and stand out more.

However when I changed the colour there was a spot in the middle that stayed black. To combat this I went back into the layer and added a second layer of white through 'Colour Overlay' which thankfully got rid of the black rectangle.
