LO1, Task 2: Sample materials (Masthead designs)

Existing Nature and Wildlife Magazine Masthead Designs:

 

 

 

 

 

All five mastheads include the colour white which has denotations of neutrality, calmness and placidity. This is a repeatedly used colour throughout both the Nature and Wildlife magazine genres. Therefore in order to follow the codes and conventions of the genres I have chosen I will also include white in my housetsyle colour scheme. This means that the readers will feel they are already familiar with the brand of my magazine because they are used to the visuals. The white font also has connotations of the cold and winter which works in contrast/juxtaposition with the greens of my housestyle and connotes the incoming of spring. 

The text styles all carry connotations of formality, importance and education, I will use a font that creates similar connotations because I want to connote to the audience thar my magazine is part of the genres but also that it likewise supplies educational and entertaining content. The formal and proper connotations are further accentuated because all the magazine's mastheads are quite long meaning they oppose the 'tabloid' format. I want to portray this in my masthead with the use of an acronym/abbreviate conjoined with a full title.
